The much awaited MCF Launch in Kenya was finally here. Held in Nakuru, the Provincial Headquarters for Rift Valley, the launch attracted many health Specialists, Private Medical Practitioner and regional representatives from the Ministries of Health. During the launch, each speaker after the other spoke of the high demand and continued low quality healthcare in our systems due to the lack of finance.
Dr. Osore, the Provincial Medical Officer representing the Minister for Medical services at the launch, informed participants that patients found it difficult to pay bills even in Government facilities and that the way forward is towards a working medical insurance scheme.

In his key note address, Prof. Khama Rogo, the lead health specialist at the World Bank emphasized that for health providers to improve in the quality of service they provide, they have to develop a lobbying capacity to access medical credit.
On her part, Monique Dolfing, the Executive Director at MCF was reminiscent that despite the disease burden, the level of investment required in this sector is still low, sentiments echoed by Ms. Monica Oguttu, K-MET’s Executive director.
The beneficiaries at the launch concurred that the demand for health service is there whether one is a private provider or public and that funds must be sought to provide the services.
