Home Based Care Project
The HBC program was started in 2001 because of increased pressure on bed occupancy in hospitals and inadequate numbers of health providers to cope with the large numbers of admissions. Many patients were being discharged while still in need of care.
The HBC program has continued to provide care to 150 – 250 PLWHA and about 800 family members through a broad range of services. This comprehensive HIV/AIDS care includes: clinical care (medical & nursing); psychological support; socio-economic support; involvement of PLWHA and respect for human rights and legal networks. By 2008 K-MET has trained a total of 794 community health workers (CHW) spread out in West Kolwa in Bware, Rongo Runyenjees, Kwale, Kilifi, Kakamega. |
